In the near future The Acting Singers Project plans to launch a series of highly rehearsed all-female performances using super talented actresses and musicians. Each of the singing actresses will perform several roles, perhaps even in the course of a single evening. There will be few costumes, no sets, and perhaps only piano accompaniment. The point is to emphasize acting and character development. There are currently three times as many female as male singers in the metropolitan Boston area (according to The Boston Singers Resource membership). Limiting our selection to women will allow us to utilize a higher quality of singers due to a larger pool of acting musicians. It will also give more opportunities to a group of people (namely women) who have had fewer chances to perform due to their larger numbers. Men may be re-introduced at some later time, but no preference will be given as to gender, and both women and men will continue to portray both genders. It is hoped that this "gender-free" environment will also increase the emphasis on acting. The goal of The Acting Singers Project remains to "act from within" by "becoming" the characters that we portray in a very real emotional sense. We believe that this will make for very dynamic and moving performances.
